I love poetry. I love reading it and occasionally writing it.
Some of the poets I love to read are Robinson Jeffers, for showing me the natural world in a way I’d never before perceived it and expressing some of my sentiments towards the human race; Jane Hirshfield, for her insight and mindfulness of moment; Mary Oliver for her love of nature and clarity of expression, her exuberance, cheerfulness and spontaneity; T. S. Eliot–a long time favorite whose poems grow newer upon each reading, and who taught me much about metaphor; Pablo Neruda for his range and ability to make simple some very complex and difficult situations; Rainer Maria Rilke for inspiring and uplifting my thoughts. And many more.
My own poetry has never risen to the level of those I’ve read. Thus my reluctance to share it. But I will overcome that reluctance and begin sharing some of my own poetry here.
